Flora (McNab) Tracy
Flora, daughter of Alexander McNab,
married Richard Tracy, a merchant, on the 12 Dec. 1844 at Norval. The
oficiating minister was Rev. R.J. MacGeorge, one of the first Church of
England ministers to this area. After Mr. Tracy’s death she married John Murray
of Stewarttown, also a merchant, in St. Stephen’s Church, Homby, the 29th
January, 1857. Marjorie (Murray) Barclay, a descendant through Flora McNab, and
a Norval resident on Old Pinecrest Road, is now living on part of the original
James McNab, and later Alexander McNab farm.

James Tracy
(c.1835 Ireland - 1905 St. Louis Missouri) famous Police Detective Tracy was born in Ireland in 1839.
He went to Totonto, Canada, with his parents when 1 year old and in a few
months was brought to St. Louis. He worked as a shoemaker at a
bench next to that of Lawrence Harrigan who was chief of police and they
became great friends. He joined the police force in 1867 but was off for a
few months. He was reinstated and served continuously ever since. He has made
several trips within the boundaries of the United States after prisoners. He
served at many weddings and social events and was known among all classes of
citizens. Though small in stature, he was
one of the greatest fighters in the business and a clever boxer. His son,
Thomas Tracy, who died May 19 1899, was also a detective, and, like his father,
had an excellent reputation as a thief catcher. Detective Tucker, now assigned to
the Bertillon Room, pays this tribute to his old partner: "A gamer man never lived.
When we had dangerous men to handle, it was always, 'come on' with Jim. He
never said 'go ahead'. He was honest and loyal and the man never lived of
whom he was afraid." 18 April 1905 San Francisco Call Veteran Detective Dead. St. Louis, April 17.— James
Tracey. aged 66 years, the oldest detective of the St. Louis police
department, died to-day. Tracey followed Walter H. L. Maxwell to Australia
for the murder of Charles A Preller here in 1885. Maxwell was convicted and
hanged. Preller's body, badly mutilated, was found in a trunk. The case was a
famous one. 1870 Census - 17th Sub Div St. Louis,
